ABOUT APPRAISALS

What is an Appraiser?

A person who combines the attributes of honest, ethical values with the finer characteristics of scholarly evaluation and intuitiveness to determine the value of an item of personal property: be it an antique or a contemporary item.

An Appraiser is a:

  • Listener
Enthusiast Detective
Observer Professional Writer
Diplomat Detailer Scholar

. . .and finally a neutral party, a professional with no vested interest in obtaining the item for oneself.

An appraiser listens to the client above all else:
then listens to her instinct as it speaks to the "feel" of the item.

Experience based on years of evaluation and questioning enable the appraiser to answer the questions:

Is it real, good, common, better, best, authentic, rare, mundane, fake, and . . . will it sell and in what marketplace?

These questions, the appraiser faces every day no matter what the object in hand.

Listening and making judgments are the tools of the appraiser.
